教授教你如何准备留学推荐信

我是Shelley。我在申请北师大与美国校际交换留学项目。希望您能够给我写一封推荐信。如果您能够亲自写，相信效果一定会非常好。因为项目申请截止到本月15日，我也是昨天才知道的。时间比较紧，如果您能抽出时间，不胜感激。另外，专业选择上也请您多多指教。我目前选择的是以下两个方向：1。 English Department主要偏重于英文写作。2。Modern Language and Literature Department主要是第二外语习得方面。对于我来说学习侧重于英语教学法 TESOL, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.尤其感兴趣的是在这个学院还可以选修拉丁语。目前我更倾向于第二个，也就是英语教学法。希望得到您的指点。 Shelley

第一，我也觉得第二个比较好，因为，在你们之后的一个班级中也有一位来自北师大的老师，她是给老外讲汉语的那个学院。她告诉我说，我的教学方式和造词理论在目前语言教学领域中属于一种很先进的方法和理论（我没有记住这个专业术语），只是许多教师停留在理论阶段，而我虽然没有接触这种语言学理论，但我确实好像处于这种理论的实践阶段。因此，我的上课内容也许对您有所参考，您也许可以把这种理论和方法从语言专业的角度发扬光大。
第二，关于推荐信，我从来就没有写过。最重要的是，我不属于语言教学的圈子，因此，我的外行话很难有所价值。我的建议是，您自己参考相关资料写一篇推荐信，然后找您熟悉并且熟悉您业务能力的语言学教授签字即可，国内留学生基本上都是这种作法。当然，也有一些公司专门做这项服务，只是那些公司是为不懂英语或者不懂国外教育背景的人服务的。祝一切顺利！
如何准备推荐信
Dear Dr. Liu,
In no longer than a month, i will be a freshman in one of the most famous and beautiful campus in Beijing, and hereby i am so appreciate that remarkable summer holidays we spent together in 2005, which surely changed my attitudes toward those seemingly stupid English words, just as you say in the textbook, now to gain the cognition of the world, to express the world: ).
But i have more exciting stories to share with you, i am now applying for American Universities after a month's preparation of both SAT-1 and SAT-2. those times were tough and painful, which makes me realized how much you should pay for your future success, yet i can tell you that my pain was somehow alleviated, but pity it didn't clear off...Tests are one thing, while application is another, another thing that is much, much more enduring than to take the test twice in the U.S.. And let me get this straight, i would like you to help me a bit with the recommendation work, at first i was thinking maybe you could write  letter in the way my parents have suggested, but soon i changed my mind. There were so many students ever running into your life, how could you possibly remember them all? ( or maybe you will). And honestly speaking, few teachers in our school pays attention to the college application overseas, and therefore they always say they were too busy to help...(what? they will definitely be regretted if i ended up in Yale); However, that's the truth, so , as other freshmen applicants in China, i was trying to write the recommendation myself and bring them to the teacher instead...Yep, my headteacher was exceptional, she was the only one who helped me write a recommendation letter with enthusiasm, and this time, i was thinking if you could kindly help me with the translation work...The letter is not so long, yet moving and true. I don't wanna translate it myself because i have "intervened" so many recommendation letters. So, i would like to make this very real letter worth its while and therefore looking forward to your help.

i'd be so appreciate if you'd like to help with me, even only give me some instructions...and this appreciation will lead me to strengthen my drive, to go on fulfilling my dreams with almighty, to thanking you as one of my greatest teachers, which i surely felt when i struck that word in the vey first line of this email——Dear Dr. Liu.

Hi，首先，热烈祝贺！其次，非常抱歉，我从没有写过推荐信。最后，个人建议：
第一，你的英语表达能力已经非常非常好——比我都好，你完全可以自己翻译。
第二，国内学生的推荐信基本上都是自己写好之后，请相关的老师签字，但一定要实事求是。
第三，最好咨询一下相关的公司或者中介，他们都有专门的推荐信服务业务。
原因如下：
（1）：他们熟悉推荐信的格式和文体。一个写诗歌的人并不一定能够写小说，而一个能写小说的人往往写不了领导的发言稿。
（2）：他们熟悉相国国家的价值观。一些中国学生自认为的优点并不一定就是外国学校承认的优点，而一些中国学校认为的缺点有可能就是国外学校承认的优点。
第四，推荐信不是最重要的东西，因为你已经具备了到美国学习和创造任何东西的能力。
就我而言，
首先，500字可以表达清楚的内容，没有必要用2000多字。其次，推荐信属于介绍性质的文字，而不要像写小说那样运用过多的、毫无内容的、极具中国官方特色的形容词。最后，三个例子占用了推荐信近三分之二的篇幅，并且都是描述性语言，不仅缺少实质性内容，而且也反映不出你的能力和品质。比如，军训之后让老师吃惊的敲门声，只能说明你让老师对你印象深刻，却不能证明你具有吃苦耐劳的品质，更加糟糕的也许是，这从反面证明了你缺少西方人最基本的礼仪：预约。还有，我不知道美国的学生是否也有“军训”，如果没有，军训一词的英文翻译是否会引起美国教授的误会，从而拒绝接受一个具有“军方背景”的学生来美国学习先进的科学技术。
最后，你可以把推荐信压缩成500字，说明以下两个问题即可：第一，你到美国做什么？第二，你有什么与众不同的能力支持你做这件事？把这两个问题说清楚了就 ，而不必面面俱到。把自己描写成一个完人是不可取的，相反，有一点缺点反而并不是坏事。个人理解，仅供参考。网上有许多推荐信，你可以参考一下，你的英语能力完全能够把500字的自己说清楚。
